Monthly Summary - September

The month of September is at an end, and it does not seem possible.  During the month I have been working on reviewing and reading the material on the subject of emotional intelligence.  I have also been preparing for the upcoming learning conference at Harrison College next month.

My reading has been to read scholarly articles on the topic that I wish to pursue.  The articles I reported on in my literature review paper are only a portion of the material I have read.   I read and reported on five articles/studies in my literature review paper on the topic.

Emotional Intelligence, coping and exam-related stress in Canadian undergraduate students was a paper that evaluated the role of emotional intelligence in coping skills exhibited in these undergraduate students.

Relationship between Student’s Emotional Intelligence, Social Bond, and Interaction in online learning was a study about the role of emotional intelligence and sense of connection developed in students taking both synchronous and asynchronous online courses.

Emotional Intelligence:  an integral part of positive psychology which discussed the ways that Emotional Intelligence and Positive Psychology have both been defined and conceptualized, as well as evaluating empirical data.

Walking in Each Other’s Shoes:  Perspective Taking Mediates Effects of Emotional Intelligence on Relationship Quality is an article that reports the findings of a group of couples and the way emotional intelligence has impacted their relationships.

Development Correlates of emotional intelligence:  Temperament, family environment, and childhood trauma this study reports the findings of a study of 97 university students in Australia which attempted to connect environmental factors to student’s development of emotional intelligence.

Trait emotional intelligence influences on academic achievement and school behavior examines the relationship between trait emotional intelligence and school outcomes for elementary and middle school children.

The relationship between thinking styles and emotional intelligence:  an exploratory study was an article that discussed thinking (cognitive) styles and discussed the concepts of mental self-government and how it is related to emotional intelligence.

Kinds of Thinking, Styles of Reasoning discussed the way thinking and reasoning have been conceived and how they have been evaluated and influenced by major thinkers like Kant, Hegel, Piaget, Heidegger, Wittgenstein, and Hacking.  The article argues that the study of critical thinking has been traditionally ahistorical and aplural, however the article argues that this approach should be reversed.

Below is a list of sources I have consulted and reviewed during the month of September.  The most helpful resources have been included in the list above.
